Hi, my name is Chaz. I’ve been working on a new type of poker analytics software called Pokeit. Like Poker Tracker and Hold’em Manager, Pokeit parses your hand histories and drops them into a database, allowing you to track your winnings, losses, and various opponent statistics. However, instead of just giving you raw statistics on your opponents, Pokeit runs your data through a statistical regression model to compute predictions of your opponent’s hand based on their prior actions. Modern statistical methods have proven successful in predicting the outcome of presidential elections, forecasting fluctuations in airfare, and making movie recommendations tailored to your tastes. If these methods were applied to online poker it could change the game.
This blog will explore some of the statistical concepts behind Pokeit and try to crack the brain teasers that come up during development.
